Accessibility Statement

Last updated: April 2026

Our commitment

IRCC.com is committed to making its content accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the international standard adopted by Canadian accessibility law (including Ontario's AODA).

What we do

  • Semantic HTML with proper landmarks (header, nav, main, footer).
  • Logical heading hierarchy (one H1 per page, ordered subheadings).
  • Sufficient colour contrast on text and interactive elements.
  • Visible keyboard focus on all interactive elements.
  • Descriptive link text (no “click here”).
  • Form labels and error messages associated with inputs.
  • Alt text on informative images.
  • Pages tested for screen-reader compatibility (VoiceOver, NVDA).
  • Responsive layouts that work down to 320px width.
  • Honoured prefers-reduced-motion and prefers-color-scheme media queries.

Known limitations

IRCC.com is in active development. Some interactive tools (calculators, charts) may not yet meet WCAG 2.1 AA fully. We document and prioritize fixes; please report any barrier you encounter.

Reporting an accessibility issue

If you encounter a barrier, please tell us via our contact form with:

  • The URL where you encountered the issue.
  • What assistive technology you were using (if any).
  • What happened vs. what you expected.

We aim to acknowledge within 2 business days and to provide an alternative or fix within 10 business days where reasonably possible.

Alternative formats

If you need a particular page in an alternative format (large print, plain text, screen-reader-friendly PDF), contact us and we'll provide it within 10 business days.

Feedback to regulators

Ontario residents may file feedback with the AODA office at ontario.ca/accessibility. Federal complaints can go to the Canadian Human Rights Commission at chrc-ccdp.gc.ca.
