Alberta invites over 1,000 healthcare, tech, and rural community-bound…

Alberta issued 1,051 provincial nomination invitations across four draws between May 1 and May 13, 2026, targeting healthcare workers, technology professionals, and candidates committed to rural communities. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) conducted the selections under four streams: the Rural Renewal Stream, Alberta Opportunity Stream, Alberta Express Entry Stream – Accelerated Tech Pathway, and the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry, as reported by CIC News.
These draws represent Alberta's 33rd through 36th provincial selections of 2026, bringing the year's total invitations to at least 6,269 candidates. The province has maintained a consistent cadence of draws in these priority categories throughout the spring, with similar selections conducted in early and mid-April under the same streams.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream dominated the May selections, accounting for 832 invitations—roughly 79.2% of the total. That draw on May 6 required a minimum score of 54. The Accelerated Tech Pathway issued 146 invitations on May 7 with a cutoff of 57, while the Dedicated Health Care Pathway invited 61 candidates on May 13, also at a score of 57. The Rural Renewal Stream, conducted May 1, invited 12 candidates at the lowest threshold of 50.
"Healthcare, technology, and Rural Renewal Stream invitations [are] among its list of 'highest priorities for 2026,'" the province states on its official webpage.
The invitations affect Express Entry candidates in technology and healthcare occupations, workers already employed in Alberta under the Opportunity Stream, and individuals planning to settle in designated rural communities. Healthcare professionals eligible under the Dedicated Health Care Pathway include physicians, nurses, and allied health workers in occupations the province has identified as in-demand. Technology workers qualify under NOC codes specified for the Accelerated Tech Pathway, which prioritizes software developers, data scientists, and IT specialists.
As of May 14, Alberta had issued 2,191 provincial nominations against its federal allocation of 6,403 spaces, leaving 4,212 nominations available for the remainder of the year. The Alberta Opportunity Stream has used 1,267 of its 3,425 allocated nominations, while the Rural Renewal Stream has issued 367 of 1,000. The Accelerated Tech Pathway has used 228 of 600 nominations, and the Dedicated Health Care Pathways have issued 87 of 500.
Candidates who received invitations should submit complete provincial nomination applications through the AAIP portal before the deadline specified in their invitation letter. As of May 14, the province held 40,161 Expressions of Interest in its pool—1,602 fewer than two weeks prior—and 1,303 applications awaiting processing. The Alberta Opportunity Stream accounts for 25,571 EOIs and 446 pending applications, indicating substantial competition for future draws in that category.
