British Columbia has released full eligibility criteria for a time-limited pathway targeting cleaning and security workers employed by health authorities in rural and remote communities. Registration opens June 15, 2026, and closes August 31, 2026, with the province capping the initiative at 250 nominations.

The temporary stream represents British Columbia's effort to retain essential health-sector support staff in underserved areas. The province first announced the initiative on April 23, 2026, but only published detailed requirements in an update on May 28, 2026, as reported by CIC News. Unlike most BC Provincial Nominee Program streams, this one sets a hard numerical limit and a narrow application window, making early preparation critical.

Three occupations qualify: janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners (NOC 65312); light-duty cleaners (NOC 65310); and security guards and related security service occupations (NOC 64410). Applicants must hold a regular, indeterminate, full-time position with one of eight B.C. health authorities—Provincial Health Services Authority, First Nations Health Authority, Fraser Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health, Vancouver Coastal Health, or Providence Health Care—and work in a rural or remote location. Candidates must have worked full-time in an eligible occupation with the same employer for at least nine months before registering with the BCPNP. The job offer must remain valid at registration, at application, and throughout processing.

"Support for BC PNP applications must be confirmed by an authorized representative of the relevant health authority," the release states. Each health authority determines its own selection process and is not obligated to support applications.

The pathway affects cleaning and security staff currently employed in rural and remote health facilities across British Columbia. Workers in these roles who meet the nine-month employment threshold and hold indeterminate positions with a qualifying health authority can pursue permanent residence without needing to compete in the general Skills Immigration stream. The initiative does not extend to contract workers, part-time employees, or those in urban health facilities.

Applicants must hold at minimum a secondary school education and provide an English copy of their highest diploma, certificate, degree, or transcripts. They must meet the minimum income requirement for the full nine-month period prior to registration, calculated based on annual wage, area of residence in B.C., and number of dependents. Income includes the applicant's regular gross annual wage from the supporting health authority and, if applicable, a spouse or common-law partner's regular gross annual wage in B.C. Full job offer requirements appear in sections 3.5 and 6.6 of the BCPNP Skills Immigration application guide.

A webinar on June 10, 2026, will provide additional details; interested workers can join the waitlist through the BCPNP website. Given the 250-applicant cap and the two-and-a-half-month registration window, eligible workers should gather required documentation now, confirm employer support, and prepare to register the day the window opens.
