Canada holds first Canadian Experience Class Express Entry draw in four…

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada issued 3,000 invitations to apply through Express Entry on May 27, targeting Canadian Experience Class candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of 518. Applicants also needed to have created their Express Entry profile before 3:16 p.m. UTC on April 30, 2026.

This marks the ninth CEC-specific draw in 2026 and the first in four weeks, following the previous CEC selection on April 28 that required a CRS of 514 for 2,000 invitations. The CRS threshold has risen four points since that draw, reflecting increased competition among candidates with Canadian work experience. Since January, CEC draws have maintained scores between 507 and 518, consistently above 500 points.

The May 27 draw follows a Provincial Nominee Program selection two days earlier that issued 334 invitations at a CRS of 805. IRCC has conducted 29 Express Entry draws this year, with category-specific selections dominating the strategy. Provincial nominees have received 11 draws, CEC candidates nine, and French-language proficiency applicants five. Single draws have targeted trades workers, healthcare professionals, physicians with Canadian work experience, and senior managers with Canadian work experience.

"IRCC has issued more invitations to apply through the Express Entry system," as reported by CIC News, with the immigration department maintaining its focus on candidates already working in Canada.

Canadian Experience Class candidates have received 37,250 of the 75,341 total invitations issued in 2026, representing nearly half of all ITAs. French-language proficiency draws account for 26,000 invitations across five selections, while provincial nominees received 4,450 invitations through 11 draws. Healthcare and social services workers received 4,000 invitations in a single February draw, and trades workers received 3,000 in an April selection. Physicians with Canadian work experience and senior managers with Canadian work experience received 391 and 250 invitations respectively in targeted draws.

This draw affects temporary foreign workers, international graduates from Canadian institutions, and other candidates with at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada within the past three years. CEC candidates do not require a job offer to qualify, unlike many other Express Entry pathways. The 518-point threshold means competitive profiles typically include strong language scores, multiple years of Canadian work experience, or additional factors such as a sibling in Canada or provincial nomination points.

Invited candidates have 60 days to submit a complete permanent residence application with supporting documents including language test results, educational credential assessments, proof of work experience, and police certificates. Applicants should check their IRCC online accounts for the invitation letter and begin gathering documents immediately, as the 60-day deadline does not extend for incomplete submissions.
