Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has reissued its advisory to foreign nationals planning to attend FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Canada, emphasizing that visitors remain responsible for meeting all entry requirements regardless of event tickets. The warning, repeated in an official statement, comes as the tournament approaches with matches scheduled across Toronto and Vancouver in June 2026.
This marks the second time IRCC has issued the caution, following an earlier advisory when World Cup preparations began. The department's renewed focus reflects concern that some ticket holders may assume event credentials substitute for standard visitor documentation, a misconception that could lead to denied boarding or refusal at the border.
The advisory specifies that all foreign nationals must determine their visa requirements before travel. Visitors from visa-required countries need a valid temporary resident visa, while those from visa-exempt nations must hold an approved electronic travel authorization. Passport validity requirements also apply — travel documents must remain valid for the duration of the intended stay in Canada. The statement clarifies that possessing a match ticket does not exempt anyone from these conditions, nor does it guarantee entry if other admissibility criteria are not met.
"You are responsible for ensuring you meet all entry requirements," the advisory states, placing accountability squarely on travelers rather than event organizers or ticketing platforms.
